Life in the Time of Corona: #2

March 25, 12:22 pm: Day 16 of self quarantine, looking out the window at a cloud-covered Onset Bay.

Mega-roll hunting update: I set the alarm for 6:00am but didn’t need it because I was already awake, anticipating the journey and hopefully awaiting the influx of a few 24 packs. I got started at 5:50 am, hoping to be one of the first in line. The good news: I was able to get some toilet paper. The bad news: the shelves were empty in the bath tissue grocery aisle, there were only three small boxes of TP on the floor (one of which was already empty), there were no Mega-rolls in the boxes, and we were limited to two packages of TP per person. I ended up with two packages of four rolls each, but I guess I’m helping the environment because the label said it was made with 100% recycled paper.

News update: For the third night in a row, Orange Baby, our fearless leader, injected himself into the nightly news time slot to babble on about his rapidly changing certainty about a medical situation he either a) knows everything about, b) knows nothing about, or c) … sorry, I don’t have a c). Besides the fact that he was again depriving Barb and I of our daily David Muir fix, it appears that he has come to a conclusion that everyone else is wrong and he and his Orange Baby virus deniers are correct in their assumptions, and that they’re gonna party like it’s 1999. Seems he is reimagining the concept of science fiction as science=fiction. Let’s see how that works out for him (and, um, us).

Tech update: Last night, while Barb and I were drinking Coronas (of course!) in the sunset room, Bridget FaceTimed us, then added Kelsey and Evan in the conversation (totally did not know you could have a conference call on FaceTime). With all of us squirming around on the screen, it looked a little like the opening credits to The Brady Bunch. I was so intrigued I don’t remember what we talked about.

Other notables: I’ve decided to read some Hemingway so am halfway through A Farewell to Arms – I recommend. I’m very tired of watching The Voice, but Barb loves it. I rewatched True Romance (written by Quentin Tarantino, with Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette and a dynamite supporting cast). If you haven’ seen it and like Tarantino, you’ll love it.
